Drew Martel, LISW, CADC, is the Chief Clinical Officer at CommUnity Crisis Services in Iowa and a practicing psychotherapist with a passion for suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and clinician education. Throughout his career, he has worked across crisis hotlines, 988 services, mobile crisis response, emergency department collaboration, and outpatient behavioral health, helping individuals and families navigate some of life’s most difficult moments.
As a trainer for the American Association of Suicidology, Drew enjoys helping clinicians bridge the gap between suicide research and everyday clinical practice. His training emphasizes practical, evidence-informed approaches that build confidence in assessing suicide risk, understanding the factors that drive suicidal crises, and engaging people in compassionate, effective care.
Drew’s professional interests include suicide-specific care, family engagement following suicide attempts, crisis system design, and translating emerging research into tools clinicians can apply in practice.
Aisha T. McDonald, LMHC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Trauma Expert who has worked in the social services field for over 12 years. She earned her Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She is also a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging expert who aims to address the systemic barriers to equity in our community. She has worked with marginalized populations within South Florida specifically those with severe and persistent mental illness, forensic population, individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, youth in the welfare system, and individuals who are involuntarily hospitalized.
She regularly facilitates community trainings and professional development workshops focused on mental health awareness and education, racial and cultural trauma, substance use issues, as well as diversity and inclusion and social equity. She also serves as an expert on panels and discussions to help promote community awareness and professional development on these topics.
Dr. Chaim Nissel has worked in schools, clinics, hospitals and colleges and has experience with individuals of all ages. Dr. Nissel earned his doctorate in School-Clinical Child Psychology from Pace University. His doctoral dissertation investigated suicidal ideation in an adolescent inpatient population and throughout his career, he has always been interested in and involved with the assessment and treatment of suicide risk. He is a NYS licensed psychologist and a certified school psychologist.
Dr. Nissel has given countless workshops, in the U.S. and Canada, on topics including suicidality, behavior management with children and adolescents, bullying and college mental health.
Dotti Owens, M.A., D-ABMDI assumed the position of Ada County Coroner in January 2015 and served as the county coroner until January 2023. Following her retirement, Dotti remains dedicated to enhancing the field of medicolegal death investigation and implementing high standards through her consulting firm. Her professional background boasts an impressive array of accomplishments, including:
- Currently obtaining a Ph.D. in Public Health • Master’s degree in criminology and criminal justice administration
- Certification in Medicolegal Death Investigation from The American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators
- Accreditation from the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners
- Accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners
- Development of Regional Facilities within the State of Idaho to Include a 30-million-dollar forensic pathology facility.
She frequently conducts training sessions for Coroner/Medical Examiner agencies nationwide and is currently involved in the development of the Eastern Idaho Forensic Pathology Center. Dotti\’s proficiency extends to advising on the establishment of Coroner/Medical jurisdictions in the region. Her commitment to suicide and drug overdose prevention has led her to introduce the Man Therapy campaign to the State of Idaho. Dotti has played a significant role in bridging the gap between Coroners and Medical Examiners and their involvement in Suicide and Overdose Prevention. Recognizing the coroner\’s pivotal role in public health, she continues to champion its importance.
Dr. Harry Rockland-Miller, Ph.D., is Director Emeritus of the Center for Counseling and Psychological Health, and served as a core member of the Student Affairs and Campus Life Leadership team at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. For 22 years he led a multidisciplinary university clinic providing short-term psychotherapies, psychopharmacological services, community consultation, training and 24-hour crisis services. Rockland-Miller is a national trainer, presenter and consultant in areas including college mental health, clinical triage, suicide prevention and mental health care delivery. Other clinical interests include crisis intervention, brief therapy and hospital-based treatment.
He was a two-time recipient and Principal Investigator for a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administrator grant providing suicide prevention training on the UMass Amherst campus. Dr. Rockland-Miller was awarded the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors’ (AUCCCD) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 in recognition of his contribution to campus mental health “at the highest national levels.” Prior to joining the university, he was Interim Vice President for Behavioral Health at Holyoke Medical Center, where he also founded their hospital based crisis and consultation team. He has worked in mobile and hospital crisis intervention and inpatient psychiatry settings. Dr. Rockland-Miller maintains a clinical and consulting practice in Amherst, MA.
